What is an Open Graph image?

It's the picture that appears when someone shares a link to your page. It's set with an og:image meta tag in the page's <head>. Without one, platforms pick a random image from the page, or none at all.

The meta tags to add

<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/share.jpg">
<meta property="og:image:width" content="1200">
<meta property="og:image:height" content="630">
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="Describe the image">
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">

Use an absolute URL (with https://). On Shopify, Webflow and WordPress, there's usually a "social sharing image" field that writes these tags for you.

Design tips

Changed the image and it doesn't update?

Social networks cache previews. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector to fetch the new image.

Make your Open Graph image

  1. Open CrispSize: the Open Graph (1200 × 630) and link preview sizes are pre-selected.
  2. Drop the photo or visual you want to show. Set the focal point if needed.
  3. Download the ZIP, upload the file to your site and point your og:image tag to it.
